Brooklyn label Sacred Bones is celebrating their 15th anniversary with a compilation of tracks in which the eclectic range of artists on their roster perform covers of each other’s tracks. Released today is Marissa Nadler’s cover of David Lynch’s ‘Cold Wind Blowin’, still atmospheric and unnerving, Nadler’s voice and more delicate arrangement elevates the beauty of the original. A huge Lynch fan, Nadler is drawn to the strange melancholy that is present in Lynch’s films, music and art: ‘For anyone that’s ever been haunted by loss, been followed around by regret, those lyrics sting true. There’s a universality in the appeal of this song, but it’s also tantalizing for its strangeness and off-kilter rhythms.’ The full compilation is released on the 27th of May, featuring a range of artists such as SPELLLING, Institute and Jenny Hval and also features original album artwork from legendary Rudimentary Peni member and artist Nick Blinko. -Toby Evans-Jesra
